WELCOME STATEMENT The Big Merino is a celebration of the Australian fine wool industry, showcasing fashion items from this brilliant and versatile natural fibre. NEWS The Big Merino has Moved to Greener Pastures. This Great Aussie icon is a celebration of Goulburn and districts fine wool industry. For the past 22 years this Giant life-like Ram has occupied a paddock on the outskirts of Goulburn's CBD. On the 26th May 2007 he was transported 800 metres down Hume Street to his new location just off Goulburns Southern exit from the M5 Hume Expressway which runs between Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra. Weighing in at 97 tonne the move was quite a site. With most of Goulburns residents and many visitors there to see the big ram, affectionately known as Rambo, settle into his new site. Work was completed on the new site late November 2007 and the new gift shop opened on the 5th December 2007. As part of the reconstruction and the new orientation Rambo gained 3 legs. The remodelling, carried out by Marshall Judd, has resulted in a more complete free standing model than in the previous location. View images of the move, click here
